Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - Senator Mark Warner participated in a roundtable discussion about gun violence in the Richmond area. The roundtable was held at Richmond Ambulance Authority headquarters. He heard from law enforcement and other community leaders with first-hand knowledge about the issue. They brought up many problems including the availability of guns, community activities for youth, social services, mental health issues for youth and law enforcement and many other issues.

Warner was candid at the end of the discussion and said that federal programs are usually not all-encompassing. They are usually very focused on one issue, so there may be not much he can do with most of the concerns. He directed a regional approach to be directed to state lawmakers. The one thing he possibly could concentrate on at the federal level is the mental health issue, since that can be lumped into COVID concerns.

He does say that the region is not going to get a flush of money at one time like the kind they just got with the COVID relief funds.
