Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Senate Judiciary Committee has rejected a proposed expansion of the Sex Offender Registry. The bill had passed the House of Delegates.

Delegate Emily Brewer (R-Isle of Wight) had wanted to include people who had committed their crimes all the way back to 1970 to be included on the list. However, several Democrats argued that it would be an additional punishment that did not exist when the offender's conviction took place. Brewer argued the public had the right to know if these offenders were out free.

Wednesday was the first day the Senate could only consider House bills, and the House could only consider Senate bills (outside of the budget).
