Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Police are currently investigating a reported deadly shooting on Broad Street between Ninth Street and 10th Street.
The shooting occurred shortly after 7:45 a.m. on Friday, March 8. The Richmond Police Department has taken over as the lead investigating agency.
According to police, officers arrived at the scene to find one male victim with an apparent gunshot wound.
“The suspect is described as a black male, short in stature, wearing a white jacket, black pants and a face mask,” a spokesperson with VCU Police said. “The individual was last seen walking southbound on 7th Street towards Main Street.”
As of 8 a.m., Broad Street was closed in both directions at Ninth Street due to the incident. Police are encouraging residents to avoid the area and use alternate routes at this time.
“Limited Access to Patrick Henry, Supreme Court, Capitol and General Assembly Buildings to credential employees only,” a spokesperson with Capitol Police said.
Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards said a brief interaction occurred between the victim and the suspect at a bus stop in front of the City Hall building.
“At this time, we are asking for help from the community in looking for one male suspect,” said Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards. “It’s a Black male wearing sunglasses with a short beard, black shoes, blue jeans and wearing a very distinctive black and white hooded jacket. He was last seen walking westbound on Broad Street … Do not approach him, immediately call 911.”
