Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - In the aftermath of a water main break along River Road, some Goochland residents are now under a boil water notice.
Residents living in Randolph Square, Lower Tuckahoe, and Wickham Glen subdivisions should boil their tap water or use bottled water for drinking and cooking until further notice.
"The boil water notice is an EQ requirement," says Vic Carpenter, Goochland County Administrator. "Whenever water pressure drops to a certain level, there is a potential that bacteria could grow in the system. So you have to test the system to make sure bacteria is not growing. Until that test comes back, there is a boil water expectation for citizens just to make sure they're safe."
The water main break occurred on Saturday, and service was restored by Sunday evening. River Road near the Goochland - Henrico County line remains closed. It is expected to reopen sometime during the morning.
