Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - This year, the State Fair of Virginia generated around $137,000 in funds for nonprofits that support youth.

Collectively, the annual Sale of Champions and Black Tie & Boots Events and the Ben Risney Chainsaw Carvings Auction raised $136,000 for the fair's scholarship program. The State Fair's Crafters for Children online auction of handcrafted items raised $1,040 for the Children's Hospital Foundation and the Fair's scholarship program.

Additionally, fairgoers donated just under 1,500 pounds of canned food, 215 pounds of school supply items, and 59 new pairs of winter gloves in exchange for discounted admissions. The items were donated to Caroline County food banks and schools.

Despite a rainy start due to Tropical Storm Ophelia, the State Fair had roughly 210,000 visitors this year.
