Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - State police are investigating a crash on the James River Bridge on Route 288 in Powhatan. It occurred around 1:45 Tuesday afternoon when two cars collided in the northbound lanes over the bridge.
State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Jessica Sheehan says that witnesses to the crash saw a man exit one of the vehicles and jump over the bridge into the river. Sheehan says that Med-Flight was dispatched to the scene to try to rescue the man. Sheehan sometime between the time that rescuers got to the man and the time they brought him to shore, he died.
There has been no identification of the man pending next of kin. The crash and incident remain under investigation
