State Police Warn of Increased Traffic in NOVA

Tied to "Protest" Convoys

Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia State Police are advising people that there may be increased traffic in northern Virginia this weekend because of "protest" convoys. The potential convoys are inspired by convoys that occurred in Canada to protest Covid-19 restrictions in that country.

It is not clear how many convoys are coming, or how many vehicles are included within them. State Police say they respect First Amendment rights, and will only be pulling people over for traffic and criminal violations. However, they also say they will ensure the free flow of traffic in Virginia.

State Police say they have been in contact with potential convoy leaders to let them know the laws and expectations. A police spokeswoman says they will not be offering escorts to the convoys. Drivers can expect to see an increased presence on the roads.
