Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - Governor Youngkin's deadline for state employees to be back in the office was this past Tuesday and, according to the contract lobbyist with the Virginia Governmental Employees Association, there was a mixed bag of results with the state workforce who had asked for waivers to keep working from home.

Dylan Bishop says that there seems to be a lack of uniformity among state agencies as it relates to this mandate. He says some workers were able to continue their COVID protocols by working from home as they wait for an answer, while other agencies have been less accommodating.

Bishop is concerned that there is a double standard in that employees have been forced to meet deadlines while the administration has not.

Bishop says he wouldn't be surprised if some workers who didn't have their requests granted ended up leaving. He says state employee compensation has always lagged behind similar jobs in the private sector.

Governor Youngkin's office says that their administration has approved the vast majority of telework requests submitted. Additionally, the office that while some applications are still being worked through the process, particularly ones that were submitted late, most are completed and formalized with the employees.
