Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Richmond Police have announced that portions of Grace, Allen, and Monument will be closed Tuesday Evening through Saturday evening. The closure is to allow for removal of the Robert E. Lee Monument, the sole remaining Confederate Monument on Monument Avenue.

Lee Circle has been fenced off for some time to allow for preperations for removal. The State Supreme Court ruled unanimously in two decisions Thursday that the Monument expressed speech Virginia no longer agreed with, and that it could come down. Richmond took down the other Confederate Monuments on Monument Avenue last year.

Governor Ralph Northam announced a desire to remove the Monument over a year ago.
