Richmond, Va. (Newradiowrva.com) - A State Senate Education sub-committee has rejected three bills that would have limited high school (and for two of the bills, college) sports to biological sex characteristics. Transgender participation in sports has been a flashpoint issue nationwide.
Supporters of the limits argued it is unfair to biological girls and women to compete against transgender women, because of hormones and muscle mass. However, opponents of the bans argued there are very few transgender athletes, in fact, only five or six participated in Virginia high school sports this year.
The bills will be officially killed later in the full Senate Education and Health Comittee
