Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A subtropical storm meteorologists have named "Nicole" appeared in the Atlantic on Monday. The storm is still out in open water, but experts warn that it could make landfall later this week, potentially growing stronger as time goes on.

According to NBC12's Andrew Freiden, the storm has the potential to pass through the Bahamas and arrive in Florida, possibly as a late-season hurricane. Here in Virginia only heavy rain is expected, beginning on Friday and potentially extending into Saturday. While rainfall would be an overall positive for central Virginia, it may cause issues for the Richmond Marathon, which will be run on Saturday morning.
