Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - AAA forecasts that over 53 million Americans will travel for Thanksgiving this year. Virginia-specific numbers are expected next week, but the jumps seen in the national forecast are expected to be mirrored in the Virginia forecast.
The increase is up 13% over last year's travel. It is also the largest jump since 2005. The number is also with five percent of 2019's travel, which was pre-pandemic.
AAA Mid-Atlantic Spokesman Morgan Dean says gas prices appear not to be having an impact, as people want to visit family after the isolation of the peak of the pandemic.
