Trial Date Set for Student Charged In George Wythe Shooting

Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A jury trial date has been set for David Gutierrez, the 18-year-old student arrested in connection with a double shooting at George Wythe High School earlier this year.

Following a status hearing on Tuesday, Oct. 17, Gutierrez is now scheduled to appear in court February 12, 2024 through February 15. 2024. He faces the following charges in the Richmond City Circuit Court: Aggravated malicious wounding, malicious wounding, two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm on school property.


The double shooting took place on April 27 of this year. Richmond Police officers were called to a George Wythe High School parking lot. When they arrived, they found one boy with life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital. Another student was later found to have taken himself to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Two days later, the Richmond Police Department reported that David Gutierrez was arrested in connection to the shooting.
