Virginia Beach, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -
UPDATE 2: Virginia Beach Police now say three people face firearms in connection with these incidents. They also say the woman killed was a bystander in what they are terming the second shooting (the one where gunfire was heard during investigation of the original crime scene). The three arrested are from the Hampton Roads region, as well as the two people killed.
UPDATE: Police now say the two deaths occurred at the second scene. One woman was shot and killed. A second person, a man, was shot and killed by officers. It is not clear if this second shooting is at all related to the first crime scene.
Virginia Beach Police are investigating a mass shooting that occurred along the Oceanfront Friday night. One woman was killed, and another man was killed by a police officer at a scene not far from the original shooting.
Police say they were originally called to 19th and Atlantic for a report if gunshots. There they found multiple victims. Some have life-threatening injuries. During this investigation, a police officer was also struck by a car and suffered minor injuries.
Just a short distance from the scene, police heard additional fire, and in the process of investigating that, shot and killed another man. A woman was also found shot at the scene and died at the hospital. The officer in that incident has been placed on administrative leave. That scene was a block away on Pacific Avenue.
No motive has been provided for the original shooting. There are currently eight people suffering from gunshot wounds.
