Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - On Wednesday, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan and Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney Colette McEachin hosted a town hall meeting at Cabell Library centered around the topic of postal service issues in the city.

Persistent delivery delays have caused a number of problems across the city and state. These issues have included missing and delayed mail, including important documents, bills and credit card statements and tax and court documents.

At the meeting, concerned neighbors said they've been charged late fees, had essential services canceled, seen significant delays in the arrival of important monthly checks and more as a result of these issues.

McClellan says a report from the USPS Inspector General is due at her desk in the coming days.

The town hall comes after months of lawmakers demanding answers from the USPS regarding the increase in mail issues. Lawmakers said the USPS does not want to address the public regarding these issues, even going so far as to decline an invitation to attend Wednesday’s meeting.

Lawmakers encouraged those experiencing mail issues to continue contacting their local representative and file a case.

"When you call us and open a case, that is one more tool in our tool kit that we can use in the oversight process," McClellan said.
