Charlottesville, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - UVA has announced classes are cancelled for a second day on Tuesday, following the fatal shooting of football players Devin Chandler, D'Sean Perry, and Lavel Davis, Jr. Former UVA walk-on Christopher Jones is in custody, arrested in Henrico's East End where he grew up. UVA Police say Jones has been charged with three counts of second degree murder.

Few students were willing to talk after the lockdown was lifted around 11am. Campus traffic was far lighter than would be normal on a November Monday, just prior to Thanksgiving and exams. UVA cancelled its basketball game Monday, although no news has been given as to the fate of the rest of the football season. UVa still has games with Coastal Carolina and rival Virginia Tech (which has had a tragedy of it's own in 2007) on its schedule.

UVA Police say Jones had come to the attention of the UVA threat assessment teams multiple times, once for an alleged hazing incident, and more recently, because he reportedly had a gun on campus. Police Chief Tim Longo says that does not mean Police had contact with him, and that his roommate he did not see a weapon. Longo also says they have become aware of an off-campus concealed weapons violation, which he says Jones was required to report but did not.

Police have not yet released a motive, and it is unclear how well the victims and Jones knew each other. The football players had been on a field trip to Washington, D.C., and were on a charter bus when the shooting happened.
