Charlottesville, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - UVA Health infectious disease expert Dr. Peter Jackson says we are in yet another Covid-19 surge, this one driven by the BA-5 variant. Jackson bases this on positivity rates, saying cases counts are artificially low because of at home testing. He compares this surge to the recent omicron surge.
Jackson says deaths and hospitalizations are not showing as high numbers suggesting this variant isn't as severe as some previous. He also says there is a lot of immunity out there that is lessening the virulence of BA-5; immunity acquired either from vaccines or previous cases.
Jackson continues to recommend masks in public and holding gatherings outdoors if possible.
