Charlottesville, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The University of Virginia has issued a statement on Thursday's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court on affirmative action. UVA President Jim Ryan and Provost Ian Baucom say the university is still evaluating how the opinion may affect the current admissions approach.
Both men say UVA will continue to follow the law. However, they also say the school will do everything in its legal authority to recruit and admit a diverse class of students.
The ruling called the University of North Carolina's and Harvard's race-related policies unconstitutional. Ryan and Baucom say diversity is critical to the educational experience.
