Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia Commonwealth University has permanently expelled the Delta Chi Fraternity. Delta Chi had faced allegations of misconduct tied to the alcohol-related death of freshman Adam Oakes earlier this year. Oakes was found dead in an off-campus apartment, after reportedly being made to drink a large amount of alcohol and possibly running into a tree.

In a statement, VCU said, "VCU's Student Organization Conduct Committee Chairs (SOCC) reviewed the report of the organization’s alleged misconduct. Based on the information provided, the Delta Chi fraternity chapter at VCU was found responsible for charges referred to the SOCC. Therefore, effective May 28, the Delta Chi fraternity has permanently lost university recognition, meaning it is no longer authorized to operate as a student organization at VCU." The fraternity had been suspended during the investigation, and reportedly, had faced allegations of misconduct in the past.

The Medical Examiner had found Oakes death to be accidental. Richmond and VCU Police continue to investigate.
