Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The same day Virginia's Covid State of Emergency ends, the Virginia Department of Health put out a reminder about the important protection role of masks. It also comes the same week Virginia's Vaccine Cooridinator said he didn't see a need to return to a mask mandate, at least not yet.

The Health Department is encouraging people to follow the CDC guidance, which is for not fully vaccinated people, and for those with compromised immune systems, to wear masks. They also say it may be especially important given the spread of the Delta variant, which appears to be more virulent.

The VDH stresses wearing a mask to prevent Covid does not run against Virginia's mask law. Officials say the law concerns masks used to conceal one's identity. Masks are also requried in schools and public transportation.
