Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - With an increase in cases requiring it, and an increase in demand forcing it, the Virginia Department of Health says it is expanding access to Covid testing. VDH's primary role in expansion is in funding the vendors doing the testing.
Dr. Laurie Forlano, Deputy Director of the Office of Epidemiology, says with the larger number of cases, there are more close contacts, and therefore, more people whom need to be tested. There are also additonal contacts in school that are leading to tests being needed. Forlano also says the Delta variant as made people more aware of Covid being out there, and a need to get checked.
Forlano calls testing an important preventive measure, although she considers vaccination to be the most important.
