Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - In an effort to streamline the information regarding COVID-19, the Virginia Department of Health has debuted a new COVID-19 dashboard today that will serve the best purpose in talking about the virus' impact on the state.

Rebecca Early, the director of information systems at VDH says because of the wide availability of vaccines and their effectiveness on the amount of hospitalizations, and the availability of at-home tests, the Department of Health says they're not investigating every case of COVID-19. Instead, they're focusing on reporting on the metrics that matter the most--such as focusing on outbreaks in high-risk settings, such as nursing homes.

The bottom line is that the pandemic has changed, so the information regarding the virus has changed as well. Gone from the main dashboard is specific information that's sorted by zip code. Instead, that information can be found on the Virginia Open Data portal. In addition, they've added a feature to several dashboards, including allowing the selections of the past 3, 6 or 12 months of data, instead of providing only cumulative statistics.
