Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Department of Health has launched a new data dashboard that has nothing to do with Covid-19. Rather this new dashboard provides information on firearms injuries, specifically, the number of emergency department visits for firearms injuries. The data is also broken down by year, health district, age, sex, and race.

VDH's Meredith Davis says the information will enable the department to get a grasp on the size and scope of the problem. They have already found that firearms visits jumped 72% from 2018 to 2021. VDH also says visits are predominately a male-issue, with 86% of visits done by males.

Davis says they hope to add additional data in the future. It currently contains information from 2016 through 2022.
