Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- The Virginia Department of Health is issuing recommendations for the holidays, as Omicron continues to rage and increase Covid cases. One of the primary recommendations: mask in public indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Virginia does not have a mask mandate, although they are required in school buildings, public transport, and airports.

VDH is also recommending people get vaccinated, and if they are vaccinated, and eligible, to please get a booster shot. They are also recommending people get tested if they plan to attend holiday gatherings. Tests, anecdotally, have been difficult to come by.

“We may be through with COVID-19, but COVID-19 is not through with us,” says State Health Commissioner M. Norman Oliver, “Unlike a year ago, however, we have tools to protect ourselves. The vaccines we have now are expected to protect against severe illness, hospitalization, and death due to infection with the Omicron variant, especially among those who have received their booster dose. If you’re not vaccinated or have not gotten your booster dose, now is the time to do so.”
