Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - In advance of another winter storm to hit the area, VDOT crews are out pre-treating roads. VDOT's Bethanie Glover says that the storm is such that they can pre-treat the roads so that it's not rendered useless even though this storm will start as a little amount of rain. Governor Glenn Youngkin has issued a State of Emergency in advance of the storm.

Glover advises that people give their trucks plenty of space as they do their spreading of saltwater brine. She says it is a quick process, but advises against passing a truck as it is pre-treating. Some people may encounter some slow-moving vehicles as well.

As the storm starts late Friday, VDOT has 1400 pieces of equipment, including trucks, plows, tractors and motor graders that are expected to be mobilized during and after the storm.

Glover is advising against traveling during the storm, but if you need to be out, there are some resources you should check out before driving in adverse conditions. The first is 511 Virginia , or download the app. That can give you up-to-the-minute road conditions. Another is following VDOT on social media and monitoring local forecasts to prepare for conditions.
