Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - In anticipation of what is expected to be record-breaking Thanksgiving travel this year, VDOT will be lifting lane closures across the state in hopes of easing highway congestion. Though all such closures can't be lifted, most closed lanes will be reopened from Wednesday through Sunday.

According to VDOT, the worst of the traffic should be expected after mid-morning on Wednesday, on Saturday afternoon, and all day on Sunday. The Northern Virginia region especially should expect heavy congestion. Real-time information regarding lane closures, traffic, and incidents can be accessed by calling 511, by downloading the app, or by visiting the website.
