Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Tuesday, June 18, was primary day in Virginia, and the Republican Congressional Race in the 5th District is still undecided. With all precincts reporting, state senator John McGuire is up on Congressman Bob Good by just over 300 votes, or about half a percentage point.
Mail-in and provisional votes still have to be counted, but late last night, McGuire claimed victory. Good did not speak last night, but on social media indicated that he is waiting for the complete tally and is already laying the groundwork for a recount (which, with this margin, is a guarantee).
In other races, Democrat Leslie Mehta won in the 1st District and will tangle with Congressman Rob Wittman in November.
As for the GOP, Hung Cao dominated the five-way race with nearly 62% of the vote and will face off with Senator Tim Kaine.
Below are the results from Tuesday’s Democratic and Republican primary races:
U.S. Senate – Five Republican candidates sought the nomination to face U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine this fall, but Hung Cao beat the other four.
