Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia has introduced new driver's licenses and ID cards, updated with both new designs and modern security features.
The new cards' design will have several Virginia-specific features, such as Dogwood flowers and an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly, Virginia's official insect. The background also features a view from inside the Capitol building rotunda. The new cards also feature new security features like laser-engraved data and a tilt-and-flip photo effect that make the card far more difficult to counterfeit.
Currently-held ids are still valid through their listed expiration dates, but anyone who registers for a Real ID will be issued a card with the new features.
