Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia's Vaccine Coordinator says he does not believe vaccinated Virginians should return to masking up, despite recommendations for masks coming from the WHO and for vaccinated people in L.A. County. The new recommendations follow conern over the Delta variant, which is surging in some low vaccination areas.
Dr. Danny Avula says here in Virginia, we are seeing some of our lowest Covid rates of the pandemic, and he believes we can continue to follow the current CDC guidance, which allows vaccinated people to go maskless, while recommending masks for those who are not vaccinated. He says that could change if we see a large number of break-through cases with vaccinated people, or if we start to see clusters of cases.
Avula did say Virginia does have Delta cases, and that the Commonwealth is likely to see a surge in late summer or fall, especially in low-vaccination areas.
