Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Vehicles in Virginia that pass safety inspections this year will have stickers that look a little different.

State police announced Wednesday, Jan. 15 that the sticker will be green for the first time and will also include changes designed to make it tougher to counterfeit.

Changes include a holographic state seal, a dogwood tree flower image, and two QR codes. The larger QR code will direct individuals to the Virginia State Police Safety Division webpage and the smaller code will be used for administrative purposes.

The expiration month will appear on a white background, and the expiration year will be placed on top of the dogwood tree flower image.

“We want Virginians to have confidence that when they see an inspection sticker on a vehicle that the vehicle has been truly inspected by a qualified professional, and that vehicle is, in fact, safe to be out on the road,” said Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Hanley, Interim Superintendent of Virginia State Police. “These new features add an additional layer of security to ensure criminals are not circumventing the safety inspection system.”

Inspection stickers placed on vehicles this year will expire in 2026, according to officials. Stickers will be blue in 2026 and red in 2027.
