Henrico County, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - Henrico County Schools has teamed up with Virginia Union University in a program that will eventually award 25 eighth graders scholarships for tuition to attend Virginia Union University when they graduate from an HCPS high school in 2026.
Deia Champ, Henrico Schools Director of Middle School Education, says that the 25 recipients will receive college-readiness support while in high school and will participate in events at Virginia Union. They will be paired with a mentor throughout their high school years to help support, advise and prepare them for college. They'll have access to VUU labs, classrooms and faculty for educational and professional development.
The application window opens on November 1 and the deadline to apply is December 17. Scholarship recipients will be announced in March of 2022. For more information and to apply, go to www.henricoschools.us and look under "Hot Topics."
In addition, there will be a virtual family information session that will be held on October 27 from 7 to 8 p.m. in order for people to learn more and ask questions. To attend, go to https://tinyurl.com/VUUHenricoScholarsProgram.
The scholarship opportunity is open to any eighth grader that attends Henrico County Public Schools. For more information, you can contact Deia Champ at vuuhenscholars@henrico.k12.va.us.
