Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - After mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas, Buffalo and other places, Senator Mark Warner is hopeful that some sort of bi-partisan gun measure will be coming out of Washington. He says it won't go as far as he would like, but says even a small step is progress.

He says the legislation will, most likely, include some sort of mental health aspect - especially targeting people who have been radicalized and feel the need to act out and buy an assault rifle.

Some of the other aspects of the legislation will be presence of school resource officers, however Warner says a school resource officer was on scene during the school shooting in Uvalde.

Warner says he was hoping that something would be agreed to by late this week, but it may not be until next week. While he says time is of the essence, it would be wrong to rush this piece of legislation
