Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) has, as expected, added an emergency clause to the bill that would make masks in schools optional Virginia-wide. Youngkin also recommended that school districts be given until March 1st to comply.
An emergency clause allows a law to take effect immediately rather than the traditional date of July 1st. Usually, they require a super-majority vote to pass, but the belief is that because Youngkin proposed this one, it would only require a simple majority.
Locally, masks are optional in Hanover and Chesterfield, but are mandated in Henrico and Richmond.
