Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Glenn Youngkin's administration has issued an interim report on divisive concepts in Virginia education. The report follows Youngkin's executive order one, which targeted the so-called concepts, and moved to have them rescinded.
The report, issued by State Schools Superintedent Jillian Balow, lists the programs that have been rescinded under this move. Among those removed are EdEquityVA and the Virginia Math Pathways Initiative. The initiative was specifically targeted in EO1, because it allegedly reduced advanced and accelerated math. The Northam Administration, prior to leaving office, maintained that was not the case, but rather allowed for more data analytics to be taught.
Balow, in her letter accompanying the report, claimed "the concepts have become widespread in the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and in Virginia school divisions and we will need to proactively review policies, practices, and pedagogies around the state to uphold the Civil Rights Act and comport with Executive Order One." Critical Race Theory, as it is commonly defined as a high level legal framework, is NOT taught in Virginia schools.
