Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Senate Education Committee, controlled by Democrats, has shot down a number of education bills backed by Governor Glenn Youngkin (R). The bills covered a number of policies, some of which Youngkin has addressed through executive order.

Among the bills killed was a bill that would have put into law a ban on teaching so-called "divisive concepts." Youngkin's Executive Order 1 does the same thing. However, Democrats on the committee said the term was not well explained or defined.

The Committee also rejected a bill that would have given the Commonwealth more of a say in the creation of charter schools. They also rejected a repeal of the law mandating transgender school policies. The Committee did approve a bill that would extend the mandate that five-day a week in-person school be offered beyond its expiration this summer.
