Fauquier, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Glenn Youngkin (R), at a bill signing on behavioral health, once again called on the General Assembly to produce budget amendments. Youngkin specifically targeted Senate Democrats, who oppose some of his tax cut proposals, specifically his proposal to cut the corporate tax rate.
The Youngkin Administration this week revealed that revenue is currently $948 million ahead of forecast, with the fiscal year ending at the end of the month. Youngkin argues the money is there to be able to cut taxes and invest, while Senator Lamont Bagby (D-Henrico) said this week he'd prefer no budget as compared to money going to corporations and millionaires.
Some General Assembly members face primaries next week. The General Assembly technically does not need to pass a budget this year as we are in the middle of a two-year spending plan.
