Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - In a rare break with the Governor, the Republican-controlled House of Delegates did not agree with Governor Glenn Youngkin's (R) proposal to create a new felony surrounding protests. The budget amendment including the felony was "passed by" for the day.
Youngkin had wanted to make it a felony to demonstrate outside the home of a Justice with the intent to intimidate. It is an outgrowth of recent protests outside of Justices' homes in Northern Virginia, with the decision on abortion looming in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. Three Justices live in Northern Virginia.
Youngkin has also had disagreements with Fairfax County over how to handle those protests.
