Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) called for additional tax cuts, and an abortion ban after 15 weeks in his State of the Commonwealth speech. The speech traditionally marks the end of the first day of the General Assembly session.
Younkin needled Democrats over the hailing of the grocery tax cut, which took effect this past week. Youngkin ran on the issue but Democrats have also pushed for the cut in the past. Youngkin is also looking for an income and corporate tax cut.
Youngkin's push for a 15-week ban comes as Democrats strengthened their majority in the State Seante to 22-18, making it less likely to pass. Aaron Rouse won the election Tuesday to fill Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (R) seat. Democrats in their reubttal message vowed to protect abortion rights, as well as target gun control after a number of high-profile incidents.
