Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) is proposing to suspend the state portion of the gas tax for three months. The Republican estimates it would save 26 cents a gallon for drivers. He is offering it as a bill for the upcoming special session.
Youngkin failed to convince lawmakers during the regular session to roll back the recent gas tax increase for a year. The special session is necessary because lawmakers could not agree on a budget. Youngkin has not yet set a date for the special session.
Democrats pointed out during session that cutting the gas tax impacts the transportation budget, and are pointing it out with this proposal as well.
