Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) has issued a new recycling executive order that rescinds some recycling mandates set by former Governor Ralph Northam (D). Northam's order, which was rescinded by this new order, mandated state government stop use of single-use plastics like disposable plastic bags and plastic silverware, as well as plastic straws.

Youngkin, philosophically, has been opposed to mandates. After taking office, he rescinded Northam mandates related to Covid-19 vaccines and masks.

The order does encourage recycling, and asks the State Park System to determine what is necessary to increase its recycling capacity. The order also aims to draw more recycling businesses to the Commonwealth.
