Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Mega Millions jackpot has now surpassed $785 million, the sixth largest jackpot in history. John Haggerty of the Virginia lottery says that, whenever the jackpot reaches such high numbers, ticket sales continue to increase as even those who might not otherwise play begin to pay attention and buy tickets.
Several of the previous jackpots to reach such high numbers have wound up continuing to increase past a billion dollars. These billion-dollar jackpots, according to Haggerty, seem to be becoming more common. During peak hours today the Virginia Lottery expects to be selling thousands of tickets every minute across Virginia.
The next drawing will be at 11 o'clock tonight.
