With his show having been overtaken by necessary hurricane coverage the past two days, WWL’s Newell Normand on Friday finally got his chance to weigh in on Tuesday night’s Presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.
The debate was the first direct public sparring between the two candidates. The previous debate featured Trump against current President Joe Biden before he chose to halt his own candidacy. And while Trump held his own against Biden, he fared abysmally against his new opponent, Normand said.
“If I were to grade all of the folks that participated in this debate, it would be as follows,” he said. “Donald Trump got an F. The moderators got a D and Kamala Harris probably got a C-plus. And that's the way that I saw this whole thing.”
Normand then explained why he felt Trump’s debate showing was particularly poor.
“If you can't articulate your platform that you’re putting forward for the general public to consider when they’re assessing who they’re going to vote for,” he said, “If you’re not the best person to articulate it, then you’re not a good candidate. Plain and simple.”
