Where is Barron Trump? President's son becomes 'recluse' amid security concerns

Barron Trump, the 20-year-old son of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, has been taking a page out of his mother’s book and staying out of the spotlight lately.

According to a report this week in the New York Post, he was last seen in public on July 19, when the soccer fan joined his parents to watch the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina from behind bulletproof glass at MetLife Stadium.

That report said the incoming New York University junior “keeps a low profile inside a security bubble,” in what appears to be a “response to the climate of growing political violence that includes a series of assassination attempts targeting his father. The Post noted Trump’s survival of at least three assassination attempts since he was on the campaign trail in summer 2024.

Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist who was close with Trump’s camp, was assassinated last September. In their book “Regime Change” Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan claim that Barron was the person who first told his father of Kirk’s death – graphic video of the incident circulated incident circulated widely on social media in the days after Kirk’s death, People magazine reported.

There have also been death threats against both Barron and his father amid conflict between the U.S. and Iran. Per the Post, “Iranian hardliners recently released a video entitled ‘Where to kill Barron Trump’ and claimed to show the movements of the first son,” and put a $10 million bounty on the young man’s head.

Under those circumstances, it seems understandable that a “longtime Trumpworld figure” cited by the Post said that Barron “doesn’t go out,” even though others his age might be thinking of attending fraternity parties at this time of year. That Trumpworld figure told the Post that Barron has spent much of the summer with his mother, first lady Melania Trump, at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey.

“The kid’s pretty reclusive,” added another source.

Melania herself (who has also been a target of Iranian threats, the Post said) has been reclusive at times in the past, as Audacy has reported on. Previously, a report from Mother Jones said that Melania is “fiercely protective” of her son and the Post noted that she demanded that Barron keep his Secret Service detail after he turned 16, during former President Joe Biden’s administration.

“The Office of the First Lady requested privacy for the 20-year-old Barron, telling The Post that ‘in light of recent threats’ the East Wing asked that ‘any details concerning his private life be excluded from all coverage,’” the Post said.

It added that she has “hinted” at her son being shy in her recent documentary.

While Barron was selected as a Florida delegate to the Republican National Convention back in 2024, Melania later announced that he wouldn’t accept the offer. His older siblings had served as delegates.

“The constant security, while giving Barron the protection he needs, also heightens his awareness that threats are out there – even in ways as small as overhearing his agents talk about potential danger to a last-minute change in travel plans, experts say,” said the Post.

Barron isn’t the only child of a president who has been a bit reclusive. Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, recently told “The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Show” that she would deliberately stay indoors as often as possible in order to have privacy and when her father was in office.

“Barron already has his own spaces in each of his parents’ residences – including his own suite at Mar-a-Lago and his own floor at Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan,” said the Post. “At the White House, his room features custom furniture built by the on-site carpentry shop to fit his 6’9″ frame.”

His siblings – who were adults by the time their father ran for president, but grew up with a famous real estate mogul father – all have fairly public lives, the Post added. They are Donald Jr., Eric and Ivanka with his first wife Ivana and Tiffany with his second wife Marla Maples.

Accounts cited by the Post indicate that Barron is likely to pursue a career in business rather than politics and that people find him “smart and polite.” His cousin Kai said of Barron on Jake Paul’s podcast earlier this year that Barron doesn’t much like the public eye.

When Trump’s first term started, Barron was just 10 years old. Even at that age, he was subjected to online bullying.
