4th of July fireworks to return to Jones Beach, Empire State Plaza: Cuomo

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The iconic Fourth of July fireworks displays at Empire State Plaza and Jones Beach will return this year, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday.

In a press release, the governor announced the fireworks will return to Jones Beach State Park will begin at 9:30 p.m. on July 4.

The event will also return to Empire State Plaza in Albany from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., and there will also be a pop-up vaccination site at the location open from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

"Last year many of our favorite annual events were canceled due to COVID, including the iconic Fourth of July fireworks displays at Jones Beach and Empire State Plaza," Cuomo said. "Thanks to the hard work and dedication of New Yorkers in beating back the virus, we are able to enjoy these summer traditions once again. I encourage all New Yorkers to gather with their loved ones this Independence Day for these spectacular shows that celebrate our freedom as a nation, as well as the perseverance we have shown as a state throughout this pandemic."

New York state's 45th Independence Day celebration in Albany will feature special musical performances by some of the Capital Region's most exciting bands, according to the governor’s office.

There will also be food and beverage vendors and live performances before the fireworks get underway at 9:15 p.m.

At Jones Beach, the fireworks will be presented by Jovia Financial Credit Union and two local radio stations – WALK 97.5 FM and KJOY-98.3 FM – will simulcast music during the event.

The events were announced roughly two weeks after Mayor Bill de Blasio confirmed the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Show will allow spectators to return.
