NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The state’s mass COVID-19 vaccination sites at the Javits Center, SUNY Ulster and Suffolk Community College in Brentwood will close at the end of the week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.
All three vaccination hubs are set to shutter on Friday, July 9 as New York shifts its focus to neighborhood vaccination sites, Cuomo said in a press release.
The state will also close other sites within the coming weeks and months, the governor said. As of Wednesday, 66.1% of New York adults were fully vaccinated, while 72.7% had gotten at least one dose, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data showed.
The state’s health department on Wednesday reported five new COVID-19-related deaths and a 0.95% infection rate. A total of 354 New Yorkers, meanwhile, were hospitalized with the virus.
“Thanks to the dedication of hardworking New Yorkers, we continue to make progress every day in defeating the COVID beast once and for all,” Cuomo said in a statement.
“While we have come a long way, it’s as critical as ever we do everything we can to protect our progress, and the best way to do that is to get vaccinated,” he added. “If you still need to get your shot, I urge you to do so as quickly as possible, not only for yourself, but for your fellow New Yorkers as well.”
