De Blasio: Newly-vaxxed NYers will get free tickets to 'iconic' NYC attractions

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The Bronx Zoo, Lincoln Center and a handful of other iconic New York City attractions will offer free tickets and deals to New Yorkers who get vaccinated against COVID-19, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday.

The New York Aquarium, the New York Botanical Garden, the Bronx Zoo, Lincoln Center, the Brooklyn Cyclones, the New York City Football Club, NYC Ferry and the Public Theater will all take part in the new incentive program, de Blasio said at a news briefing Monday morning.

The city will release additional details about the program — which targets New Yorkers who have yet to get vaccinated — within the next few days, he noted.

“All these things are free when you get vaccinated,” de Blasio said. “We want people to know it’s time.”

New York City reported a 2.01% COVID-19 infection rate on Monday, marking its lowest rate since Nov. 2 of last year, the mayor said.

“With every additional vaccination, the numbers keep going down and down for COVID. We’re pushing COVID back all the time,” he said. “And we want to make it easier, and we want to make it fun, and we want to give you some incentives.”

De Blasio on Monday also announced that the city’s libraries would reopen their doors to the public.

“Our libraries are now coming back. Starting today, our libraries are back,” he said. “This is another one of these turning-point moments, to have the libraries back for everyone.”
