VERNON, N.J. (WCBS 880) — A popular attraction at Mountain Creek Water Park in New Jersey was severely damaged in a fire Tuesday evening, according to park officials.
In a Facebook post, the park said the raft water slide, High Anxiety, was damaged in a large fire. Photos posted to the page showed the orange and yellow tube on fire as smoke poured into the sky.
The park, which is located in Vernon, was closed when the fire broke out. Officials say the blaze was brought under control fairly quickly.
“We are grateful to the Vernon and other local responding volunteer fire and EMS departments as well as the Vernon Police, who responded within minutes to help extinguish the fire,” park officials wrote in the Facebook post.
Mountain Creek Water Park officials added that the ride will be shuttered as repairs are made.
“While we are certainly disappointed that we won’t have High Anxiety available for the foreseeable future, we know that our resilient team is ready to welcome guests back this weekend for our season opening as planned this Saturday, June 19,” the Facebook post read.
The cause of the fire was not released. The Vernon Township Fire Department is handling the investigation.
