
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KMOX) - With spirits known to haunt schools, a theater and a government building, Springfield, Missouri has been ranked as a one of the most haunted cities in the U.S.
The southwest Missouri town of about 167,000 people has more haunted places per capita then just about anywhere in the country, according to a new study by Porch.com. Researches used the popular Shadowlands Haunted Places Index to find the most-haunted states and cities in the U.S.

Springfield came in a No. 10 with 9.5 haunted sites per 100,000 people.
The top 10 most haunted cities are as follows:
1. Savannah, GA - 14.6
2. Pittsburgh 13
3. Laredo, TX - 12.5
4. Salt Lake City - 11.3
5. Salem, OR - 10.8
6. South Bend, IN - 10.8
7. Honolulu - 10.5
8. Orlando - 10
9. Dayton, Ohio - 10
10. Springfield, MO - 9.5
Some of the scariest known hauntings include the more than 100 ghosts inside Landers Theatre, Central High School's underground tunnels and attic, and the State Office Buildings which was one the sight of hangings. You can read all about those hauntings, here.
