Not exclusive to that location.\n\n00:29\nNo, no, mean, it\'s where I\'ve been recently. um It\'s shocking, actually, how fat people are. How fat are they? Very fat. So Greenville is 15th in the nation. You\'re wondering, Little Rock, Arkansas is number one. All right. Yeah, but still not good, not good at all to be 15th. to rename it Big Rock or Fat Rock. Yeah, no, fat bunch of rocks.\n\n00:58\nSo, okay, but the good news is that Columbia is even fatter um at 11. And Myrtle Beach, have you ever been to Myrtle Beach? Yeah. It\'s like the northern exposure. I go through there, yeah. Yeah, I used to live there. I had to. I did radio there. Yeah. We couldn\'t wait to load up that U-Haul. Let me tell you what, it\'s a place to visit. No, I wouldn\'t want to live there. Those people are fat. And we beat them. We are fatter than they are.\n\n01:28\nNow, WalletHub actually used insurance company data. So this is actually accurate. Now they looked at obesity rates, including for kids. And so they\'re trying to explain this lack of access to healthy food. What? No, not buying it, sorry. No, no. There are no food deserts. I\'m sorry. no, that\'s no, not a thing at all. You know what I think the problem is here? Stop eating so much.\n\n01:58\nYou know what was really interesting when I went on the PhD weight loss plan, I don\'t know if you had this experience, but I did. I\'ve always been pretty conservative in what I eat. You know, I\'m not sitting around eating like french fries and stuff. And yet I was 29 pounds overweight. And when I went and they had this really cool, what do you call it? Scale. That I have one in my bathroom now and I use it all the time and they could measure your metabolism with it.\n\n02:24\nAnd I\'m only 5\'2", right? So every serving is standard sized, right? What do I do? I go to Chick-fil-A. Well, what I would do for lunch most days after the show is I\'d go get a Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich. Just no fries, nothing, no soft drink, nothing like that. Well, when I did the metabolic analysis for a 5\'2 body, my caloric intake need was actually half a chicken sandwich. I didn\'t know. I mean, we don\'t question serving size. We just go get something. Well, drink is what size? We\'re drinking tea. I don\'t know. It\'s just a serving. I\'ll drink that thing.\n\n02:53\nWell, maybe you shouldn\'t. Maybe the math doesn\'t work out for you. And so I\'ve had to and you know our boss Mark here, who\'s also in great shape. He says, he said to me once, and this is so true, man, you know, I ate a lot this weekend. This is something that affected. And he says, yeah, I\'m gonna have to shrink my stomach for the next three days. And I now know exactly what he\'s talking about. The three days are Hades because you\'re hungry, right? Your stomach\'s to expand. And once you go through the shrink phase of about three days, your whole body adjusts.\n\n03:22\nAnd that\'s what you\'re used to now. So I feel full with a half of a Chick-fil-A sandwich I didn\'t used to. And I think there\'s a process there, but you gotta go through that. And he would say three days and you know what? I don\'t know where he got that. I don\'t know if it\'s scientific or what, but it\'s so true. You gotta go through the stomach shrink phase and then you\'re fine. Why? Because our stomachs expand and then they expect to consume that amount and send us a signal that we\'re hungry if we don\'t. Well, one of the things that occurred to me when I went through this, you know, before you did.\n\n03:52\nI had a bad habit of always eating till I was full. Yes. the PhD folks helped me to realize, look, eat until you\'re not hungry. And there is a difference. And quite honestly, I feel a whole lot better about that. mean, because when you\'ve eaten too much, you\'re like, oh, boy, I just don\'t want to do anything. I don\'t want to move. But I mean, that changed the mindset that I had about it. And so you only eat a portion enough to where you\'re not hungry anymore.\n\n04:21\nThat helped me a lot, which in turn decreases the portion sizes that I consume. And then after a while, your stomach shrinks and then that portion size feels fine to you. I\'m not hungry, I\'m good. You know, it\'s interesting. My brother sent me a text. Hey, what is that weight loss program that you\'re on? I want to get on that. What did you and your husband do? You know what\'s funny about that? I did PhD. He didn\'t. He lost weight too. I lost 29 pounds. He lost probably 20, 25. You know why?\n\n04:51\nskinny spouse pressure. Yeah, there\'s that. Yeah, because here I am doing all these healthy things and that puts pressure, right? Right. And he lost the weight. And like us, me and you, he\'s kept it off too. I mean, he looks fantastic. His mom came to visit us and she\'s like, oh my gosh, you guys are rocking it. And we\'ve kept it off. And so part of it is just like that sort of almost peer pressure mental expectation of what is normal. If that changes around you, it\'ll start to change other people around you too. So that helps too.\n\n05:20\nbut nothing like exercising. So go some exercise. So good for you. See, that\'s something my youngest daughter, who still lives with us, is doing. She is a gym addict. I mean, she goes every single day. for her. And I mean, it\'s like on a Saturday, she\'ll spend two hours up there. But I mean, daily, she spends about an hour anyway. And she doesn\'t eat quite as well or as healthy as I do, although she does keep an eye on it. But she\'ll eat things that I think, I just, I...\n\n05:49\nI would like to be able to eat that, I don\'t. But I mean, good grief, the amount of calories that she burns at the gym is just like astonishing. And she\'s gotten herself in great shape and she is really stuck with it. I\'m very proud of her about that. And that\'s fantastic if you can do it, okay? Yeah. But one of the things I\'ve learned, because I\'ve failed so many times to lose the weight, fought my weight all my life, I\'ve never kept it off till now, is if it\'s too hard, don\'t do it. Yeah. That seems counterintuitive. I go to the gym now like twice a week because my daughter drags me.\n\n06:17\nI will not go to the gym for myself. I will not do it. Because she was going to, she had to meet military standards and pass this really hard test. So she had to go and do pull-ups and all that stuff. So she\'s mom come with me. I will go with her, but I will not go for myself. I won\'t. She hasn\'t, she has taken the last week off. She\'s on a test. I didn\'t go. And you know what? I\'m not going to do what I hate because I will not do it for a long time. So I very elaborately have my whole workout routine set up. I do it on the treadmill. I things I love because I have to psychologically associate\n\n06:47\nSo I look forward to my workout every day because you know what it\'s the only true piece I get where I can watch what I want Romances that Rambo Loco will never like watching with me. It\'s my peace wonderful zone You know and my husband will say why don\'t you prep while you\'re doing it? That would be efficient It would wouldn\'t it but I\'d hate it and I wouldn\'t do it So you have to find what you love like for instance listening to oh, I don\'t know the battleground America podcast. Oh, yeah, like that could work Yeah, I\'ve done that. Yeah\n\n07:17\nSee, so something you enjoy doing and pair it with your workout, don\'t be like, okay, I\'m going to the gym now and I\'m getting it good and I\'m only gonna eat half the pork, you will fail by Wednesday. At least I will, I don\'t know. So I\'ve had to kind of construct this bit by bit to where it\'s something I enjoy doing. Well, whatever you\'re doing is working. Thank you. Now, do you do any type of other workout other than just the walking? Just weight lifting twice a Oh, okay, good, good, good. Only because my daughter drags me. So now I\'m at the point where I\'m like, well, she\'s gonna leave for school.\n\n07:47\nI won\'t work out anymore. And so now I\'m working on my son. Like, you\'re going to make me go to the gym. You are. You\'re going make me to the gym. We\'re going to the gym together afterward. Well, good. Yeah, because he\'s saying, Mom, am I too skinny? I\'m like, you won\'t be if you drag me to the gym. Yeah. Because I won\'t do it for myself. But I can do it for somebody else. Concentrate on consuming protein and building muscle. then you have to worry about being too skinny. But don\'t do it all the first week. It\'s too much. Yeah. Work into it. Just figure out what is the metabolism for me? What should I do? And then maybe start walking. Just 20 minutes. Just do a little 20 minute walk.\n\n08:17\nI\'ve said this for years, Tooley, I\'ll tell you something I discovered doing, just power walking, right? And I I don\'t stroll, okay? I mean, I\'m sweating, I\'m like, yeah. That\'s what I do on the treadmill, because I\'ll do like about 10 minutes of very brisk walking and 10 minutes of, I call it running, but most people would call it jogging, but I am, it looks like I\'m running, so. I would jog if I could, but have the sports injuries I can do on my knees, but um when I\'m walking, I\'m walking as fast as you\'d be jogging. I mean, I\'m I\'m pounding it.\n\n08:46\nAnd one thing I realized from that, you get that serotonin hit. It\'s like the only legal way to do drugs. It don\'t have to be a drug. And so if I\'ve had like a frustrating day or I\'m in a bad mood, I have learned I can get that serotonin hit. I\'ll get right on the treadmill for about 10 minutes. That\'s all it takes. And then I am in a great mood after that. So if you\'re happy, you can use it that way too. Just get that serotonin hit. Especially if you\'re fighting depression or you\'re going through something that\'s hard or...\n\n09:15\nJust use it that way. If you don\'t have a treadmill, just take a walk around the block. But my husband and I, we are burning through a treadmill a year now. And that\'s like for us, we weren\'t doing that five years ago, I\'ll tell you. By the way, you know what? I have to say congratulations to you too. I didn\'t realize this is your five year maintenance anniversary. You kept it off for five years? think it\'s about five years, yeah. That\'s incredible. I know it\'s three for me. The whole point of this conversation, you can do it, okay? Because we were, how many pounds did you lose, I was 48. Okay.\n\n09:44\nYeah, yeah, that\'s a lot. And I\'ve been able to keep almost all of that off. I\'ve got a little bit back, there\'s been some issues here recently where I need to sort of re-concentrate and work a little bit harder here. He said, blood pressure\'s great, all the tests. And I used to have other issues, uh know, fatty liver and all this other stuff and all that stuff\'s going away. That\'s great. So that is so great. Yeah, I see people like that and they\'re limping along and I\'m like, wow, if you lost that 40 pounds, I bet you\'d lose that limp.\n\n10:36\nAnd you can, so you can do it. But you know what, start slow. Don\'t go full bore. All right, you know, these people are like, I\'m gonna get a gym membership and I\'m gonna do this, I\'m gonna do this. And I\'m like, you\'re not gonna make it. I know, I\'ve done that like five times and failed. So don\'t feel bad if you have. So, but yeah. Great thing to do.
