In a recently released 2026 report, WalletHub ranked the Greenville-Anderson-Mauldin metro area as one of the most overweight and obese cities in the United States, placing it 15th overall out of 100 major metropolitan areas. The study evaluated 19 key indicators, such as adult and childhood obesity rates, access to healthy food, and fitness opportunities, finding that the region continues to struggle with weight-related health issues. While Little Rock, Arkansas, took the top spot, Greenville remains among the heaviest in the South, joined by fellow South Carolina cities like Columbia and Myrtle Beach in the top 20
